Identity Systems Project
Airline Brewing Company
Beer labels & packaging, 16 oz 4 packs, Dec 2021, 4 mo, Illustrator
This assignment was to design a branding system for a chosen craft beer company, focusing on three beer labels and packaging boxes. Airline Brewing Company is based on the idea of an English pub experience, and intriguingly, they have some unexpected fun experimental flavors for their beers. To translate and combine these two very different ideas, my new logo is made out of fun curls and twists which illustrates the flavors, and the star above represents a new connection and spark between people, contrasting with an old-style typeface - Atari to tie back to the pub concept. I chose bright and joyful colors for each beer label which relate to the mood from the flavors - Peanut Butter Stout, or the location where the idea of the beer is based - Schoodic Sunrise. Then, I have old English wallpaper patterns for each beer label as a background tint, and I pulled connections from the wallpaper pattern to become my shape for each brew type which I really enjoyed.

Process & Explorations
In the process of making these decisions, I struggled a lot. Nevertheless, by creating many iterations, I learned a lot and was able to achieve my goal for the project. Revising this project actually led me to deeper thinking about the meanings of each design decision. I pulled connections from the wallpaper pattern to become my shape for each brew type. Changing to an old-style English typeface also led me to experiment a new type treatment and layout which is very fun. The format of the products are stickers for the labels for 16oz beer cans and cardboard for 4 pack beer boxes. If materials allow, I would love to try having wallpaper texture on specific sides of the box regarding my design in the future. I’ve printed the stickers and tested them on beer cans. Holding it on hand definitely adds a lot to the experience as a consumer.
